How to Debate a Liberal: Top 10 Comebacks on the 2024 Election

Political discourse in our country has to be at an all time low. It’s rare that differing opinions engage in meaningful discussion in good faith. I tend to think that there are very few voters still undecided, particularly with Donald Trump on the ticket. If you should find yourself in a debate, here are the top 10 comebacks that you need to know.
“Trump is a racist”
If Donald Trump is a racist, he’s not a very good one. The Trump administration implemented many policies and initiatives aimed at benefiting minorities including permanent funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Opportunity Zones, and criminal justice reform which reduced mandatory minimum sentences for some non-violent drug offenses. These policies led to record low unemployment for blacks and wage growth among black workers.
I almost hope that someone brings up the “very fine people” on both sides hoax. Although democrats and the media still parrot that story, it has been debunked over and over. This is a good indication that the person you’re debating just regurgitates things they see on Reddit and doesn’t do any critical thinking for themselves.
If they bring up the 1973 housing case: liberals don’t want you to talk about Harris’ policy proposals from 4 years ago but they use a settled case from 50 years ago to prove Trump is racist, give me a break. Look at Trump’s record from his time at President.
Joe Brown was asked earlier this year whether Trump is a racist or not.
“Trump is a convicted felon”
The first thing you should ask someone who brings up Trump’s 34 felony convictions is, what did he actually do? You will eliminate about 90% of people who have no idea what they’re talking about. If someone can’t tell you what he did, it’s clearly not as big of a deal as they’re making it out to be.
If they manage to tell you the convictions are for falsifying business records, you can ask them why they think that disqualifies him from being President. You can also inform them that he’s likely to receive a fine and no jail time.
Also mention that the Biden administration has weaponized the Department of Justice against Trump in an aggressive and political lawfare campaign.
Lastly, the President of the United States is not a moral authority. Some like to pretend that Donald Trump is the first flawed President. JFK, LBJ, and Bill Clinton would like a word.
“I’m a Republican and I’m voting for Harris”
If someone tells you they’re a Republican or conservative but they’re voting for Harris, that person is not a serious person. You can ask them why they would vote against their conservative convictions to elect a ticket that shares none of their values, but it is more likely that this person isn’t a conservative and likely never was. I respect hardcore liberals who are upfront about their beliefs, no matter how crazy, more than these grifter “conservatives” who are voting for socialism.
Don’t even get me started on “Christians” saying they’re voting for Harris.
“The Biden administration tried to secure the border”

The Biden administration created the border crisis. In Biden’s first hours in office he halted the border wall. In his first two weeks he signed an executive order dismantling Trump’s immigration policies. He ended Remain in Mexico, he reversed Title 42, and cut border funding.
Democrats and the media blame Trump for the failure of H.R.815. In reality, the $118 billon bill did very little to secure the border. The bill codified illegal immigration, allowing 5,000 illegal immigrants into the country per day. The bill also made it harder to enforce border policies. Unrelated to immigration, the bill earmarked $60 billion to Ukraine aid and another $14 billion to Israel.
“Donald Trump is old and senile”
The same group of people that either couldn’t see or couldn’t admit that Joe Biden was mentally unfit to serve as President for the last three years, now, all of a sudden have their eyes wide open.
Sure, Donald Trump is older than I would like in a candidate but he’s not reading every word on the teleprompter or being defeated by a set of stairs. No, last month he was shot in the head and immediately stood up telling the crowd to “fight!”
Just last week Trump had a press conference, using no teleprompter, where he took questions from the press for over an hour. Later in the week, he had an almost two hour conversation with Elon Musk. Just today, he had another long press conference.
Good luck painting Trump as senile while we all have been living through the Dementia Joe administration.
“But January 6”
January 6 has done significant damage to the conservative movement and it’s hard to justify the stupidity that was shown on that day. That being said, the claims from Democrats and the media that Donald Trump incited an insurrection are hyperbole at best and downright dishonest at worst. Worse still is how January 6, was portrayed in the media compared the BLM riots.
The statement you should point to is, “Peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” It doesn’t get much more clear than that.
“Trump is going to start World War 3”
This is one of my favorite claims from the left. With the war in Ukraine, China eying Taiwan, and Iran’s imminent attack on Israel, we have been on the brink of WW3 for most of the Biden administration. Add in the Afghanistan withdrawal and the Biden/Harris foreign policy has been an unmitigated disaster.
While Donald Trump’s administration was eventful when it came to foreign policy, it was for all the right reasons. The Abraham Accords was a major step forward in Israeli/Arab relations in the Middle East. President Trump successfully contained and nearly bankrupted Iran, and the Trump Presidency marks the only administration under which Russia didn’t mount an invasion going back to Clinton. Add in demanding NATO nations pay their fair share and a strong southern border, and the U.S. was much stronger on the world stage than it is under Biden/Harris.
“What about Project 2025?”
If you’re not familiar with the Heritage Foundation, it is a conservative think tank founded 1973. For every new presidential administration, since 1981, the Heritage Foundation has produced The Mandate for Leadership which includes recommendations on policy, budget, and administrative action for the incoming administration. Project 2025 is this presidential cycle’s iteration of Mandate for Leadership.
Project 2025 is over 900 pages of policy recommendations and all of the consternation is over a handful of recommendations that will never come to fruition. Donald Trump is not directly connected to Project 2025 and it is not his platform. As Trump is currently the leader of the Republican Party, there is obviously idealogical overlap and he has connections to some of the mandate’s contributors. While Donald Trump would absolutely enact some similar policies that appear in Project 2025, his administration will not look like an authoritarian dictatorship that is being portrayed as a major fear mongering tactic.
“Harris and Walz are more moderate than Trump”
The Harris/Walz ticket is the most radical in history and there is nothing moderate about either one of them. My first question to someone making this claim would be, if they’re so moderate, why are they running away from all of their previous positions on the issues?
Here are some issues to point to that show how far left of center Harris and Walz are:
Immigration - Harris and Walz are for open borders. Harris’ time as the border czar saw 10 million illegal immigrants enter the U.S. Walz gives illegal immigrants driver’s licenses and free college in Minnesota.
Abortion - Both have supported late-term abortions. In Minnesota, five aborted babies have been born alive and left to die during Walz’s time as governor.
Crime - Harris and Walz have teamed up before during the BLM riots of 2020. Walz allowed rioters to burn and loot Minneapolis and Harris helped to bail them out of jail.
Trans issues: Harris co-sponsored the Equality Act which would force states to allow men to participate in women’s sports. Walz put tampons in boys bathrooms and signed an executive order to protect “gender affirming” surgeries for minors.
”Donald Trump is going to end our Democracy”
It’s funny that this claim is coming from the party whose original candidate was taken out back and put down in an all out coup and whose current candidate didn’t receive one single vote in the primaries. Not only that, there is proof that the Democrats rigged the 2016 primaries and allegations that they did the same thing in 2020.
Trump has already served as President once and, unless I missed it, America didn’t decend into any kind of dictatorship. I won’t indulge these ridiculous assertions and you shouldn’t either.
Now, I wouldn’t suggest going around debating every liberal you come in contact with, hoping to change their mind. You’d have better luck squaring a circle. But, if you do end up debating, or trying to convince a moderate to vote for Trump, hopefully these 10 comebacks will give you the opportunity to make someone think twice about their vote.
